Baptisms & Thanksgivings

The arrival of a new child is a life-changing event – both a great joy and hard work. As a church, we love to help you give thanks to God for your children, and offer support and encouragement in bringing them up in the Christian faith.

At St John’s we offer two different ways of marking your response to God for the gift a child:

  • A Baptism (also known as a ‘Christening’); or

  • A Thanksgiving.

In order to make an enquiry about either of these, please contact our Parish Administrator on 020 8462 6571. She will take some details from you and then one of our clergy will be in touch to arrange to meet up with you. They will take some time to get to know you, explain the 2 options available to you and help you prepare for the occasion.

Our Baptisms and Thanksgivings are held at our 10:00am service on the first and third Sundays of the month. There is no cost for these services.

We also see adults asking to be baptized, as a significant step in their journey of faith, and we are more than happy to discuss this possibility with you as well.

Weddings

Congratulations if you have recently got engaged.

Choosing to get married is a big decision and if you are contemplating taking that step in church, here is a quick guide as to how that happens at St John’s.

We recommend that you first get in touch with our Parish Administrator on 020 8462 6571 and she will be able to answer your initial enquiries. You will be asked to complete a form, which provides us with some of the necessary details. You can download this form below.

When you return the form, one of our vicars will be in touch to arrange to meet with you in order to confirm a date, help plan your service and prepare for married life.

In order to marry at St John’s you need to live in the parish, or have some connection with the church. Our Administrator can let you know the parish boundaries and indicate the nature of connection that is required.

Funerals

The death of a loved one is a difficult time and we want to help you navigate this event in a way that enables you to know God’s comfort. We also offer on-going bereavement support in the ensuing months, if that is what you would like.

If you need to make contact following the death of someone you love, then please call our Rector, Jonathan Ward, direct on: 07470 641 588 or email Jonathan directly through the website . He will help you through the initial arrangements with undertakers for the funeral and support you in your bereavement.

If Jonathan is unavailable for whatever reason, then contact our Parish Administrator on 020 8462 6571 and she will be able to direct you to someone who can assist.
